SEVENMILEBOOTS
- with Laura Beloff and Martin Pichlmair
- two pairs of networked leather boots, custom made hard and software - 2004

The SEVENMILEBOOTS are a pair of interactive, networked boots with audio. One can wear the boots, walk around as a flâneur, simultaneous in the physical world and in the literal world of the internet.
Equipped with a wireless connection, microprocessors, amplifiers and loudspeakers, the boots allow their wearers to eavesdrop on conversations that take place in internet chat rooms.
The image of Baudelaires flaneur and of Oscar Wildes dandy has resurfaced again in the context of the World Wide Web. Media theoretician Geert Lovink describes todays Net surfer as Data Dandy and states that the Net is to the electronic dandy what the metropolitan street was for the historical dandy; the anonymous crowd in the street has been replaced by logged-in net users.
